The Black Desert is a desert located in Egypt in the New Valley Governorate. The Black Desert is a little farther north from the White Desert, but it is closer to the Bahariya Oasis than to the Farafra Oasis. It is located approximately 50 km south of Al-Bweiti. The mountains eroded to cover the desert with a layer of black powder and rock, giving the place its name. At the edge of the Black Desert there are black volcanic hills that erupted ages ago and brought out a volcanic substance called jasper, the material from which black rocks are made. Climb the English mountain, which is the highest peak in the Black Desert, and you will enjoy an enchanting view of this exotic landscape. The Black Desert can be seen while crossing the road from Bahariya Oasis to Farafra Oasis.
The reason for its name is the Black Desert. Of course, the name of this desert came from its mountains and plateaus covered with black powder, due to the remnants of volcanic eruptions that dried up over millions of years.
In 2010, the Black Desert and Bahariya Oasis regions were declared nature reserves due to their richness and biodiversity as a global scientific research area, after the discovery of the second largest dinosaur skeleton in the world near the mountains of Dust and Al Mullakrah on the borders of the Black Desert in an area adjacent to Al Bweiti.
